Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. — 1 Corinthians 12.4-7
The St. John’s children’s chapel service, Kindergarten through fourth graders, begins at 10 a.m. on the second through fifth Sundays of the month. The 30-minute service features children’s music, a short children’s sermon, simple prayers, and an offering. After the service, the children are escorted by their teachers to classrooms for Sunday School. Children are picked up by their parents from the classrooms.
On the first Sunday of the month from September through May, children and youth at St. John’s join their parents in church for the 10 a.m. service. This family service includes a children’s sermon, an anthem by the Choristers (our children’s choir), and the Eucharist. Children and youth offer the prayers of the people and participate in the service as ushers, acolytes, and lay readers. St. John’s also offers special family services on Christmas Eve and Easter.
Children are welcome at ALL St. John’s services. Each week we provide Children’s Worship Bulletins (a Lectionary-based activity page) and crayons for children who attend the 10:00 a.m. service.
