Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. — Matthew 27:16-20

Each year just before Advent the children gather during Sunday School time to make ornaments for the Chrismon tree. The Chrismon tree originated in the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Danville, Virginia, in 1957. A Chrismon (CHRIStMONogram) is an ornament designed to keep Christ at the center of our Christmas celebrations. Chrismon ornaments are white and gold: white to symbolize God the Creator, joy, purity, glory, faith, light, and innocence; gold to symbolize our Lord’s regal office and eternity.
Join your St. John’s family for an evening of great entertainment, yummy pizza and fun fellowship for kids and adults. Come in your PJ’s, and bring a big pillow or maybe a stuffed animal! Friends are welcome. Contact the Church Office to find out when the next Family Movie Night is scheduled.
On Wednesdays during Lent, St. John’s offers a Lenten program. Children join their parents for Evensong in the chapel and for a soup and bread Eucharist in the parish hall, followed by an intergenerational program. Children under five are invited to the nursery.
On Palm Sunday St. John’s participates with other downtown Boulder churches in a Palm Sunday processional on Pine Street at 9:45 a.m. The gathering features palms, banners, choirs, prayer, and even a donkey. Following the parade, children gather in the Parish Hall to hear the Easter story and enjoy crafts and games.
Each year on Easter, members of St. John’s parish family gather for an Easter egg hunt, a decorated egg contest and a pot-luck lunch. This kid-friendly event, known as Eggstravaganza, is open to the entire family.
To celebrate the end of the Sunday School year and the beginning of summer, children gather in the Parish Hall during Sunday School on the last Sunday in May. Often this event corresponds closely with Pentecost. Children hear the story of Pentecost, make a special Pentecost craft, play a game, sing songs, and have a snack.
During September and October, the children and youth of our parish present an Art Show in the Parish Hall. Framed and unframed art is accepted. This is a chance for our younger members to share their artistic gifts with the parish and the wider community; if they so choose, artists may offer their work for sale.
