Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. — Romans 12:9-18

Get Involved: Ministry Needs

We ask parishioners to prayerfully consider helping our community in the following ways:

  1. Sunday Coffee Hour Volunteers - willing to serve refreshments after church twelve times a year - for example, the second Sunday of each month. A lively and rewarding ministry of hospitality, email Kate LeMere.
  2. Office Volunteers - to assist in answering the phone and greetings our visitors as well as various administrative tasks in various time slots, email Diane Wells.
  3. Pastoral Care Team - serving others in our parish by delivering altar flowers from Sunday, checking in the sick and recovering, and delivering a meal, email Kathleen Ferguson.
  4. Eucharistic Visitors - take communion to members of our church family who are not able to come to church, email Joanie Heard.

Stewardship Committee

Our Stewardship Program focuses on helping parishioners plan for St. John's financial future. This group helps each person participate in the church family, giving of time, talent and tithes, and finding spiritual rewards in the work they feel called to do. The pledges received throughout the year determine the church budget and ensure the growth of the church and its ministries.

Finance Committee

This group functions as an informal advisory group responsible for financial and accounting matters. Anyone interested in serving on this committee is welcome.

Get Involved: Our Path to the Future

Based upon the input of the congregation, we have developed the following six initiatives as our long-range plan for guiding our future:

  1. Stewardship
The Stewardship Committee will develop a plan for securing the funds necessary for St. John's to pursue its mission over the next five years and to support additional staff and clergy as needed.
  2. Welcoming and Newcomers
The Welcome Committee is developing ways to identify and welcome newcomers and provide them with information and activities to help them get involved in St. John's. Existing efforts such as the Inquirer's Class, phone calls from clergy, and newcomers' luncheons will continue.
  3. Youth Programs
A Youth Program Committee will work with the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries to determine how St. John's might broaden youth participation. This initiative will build on the excellent programs and activities created over the past few years and identify additional programs to engage youth.
  4. Worship and Adult and Education
Clergy will work with the staff and vestry to identify and consider ways to incorporate adult education into the Sunday schedule and add a contemporary worship service on Saturday or Sunday evenings. We will continue our traditional Sunday worship, liturgy and excellent music program.
  5. Building on Our Strengths
St. John's will continue to emphasize its fundamental strengths that parishioners have said are very important. These strengths include our commitment to being open and affirming, our tradition of outreach, our excellent clergy and leadership, our traditional worship, liturgy and music, our excellent children and youth programs, our strong spirit of lay volunteerism, and the warmth and compassion that characterize St. John's.
