centering_prayerCentering Prayer

thomaskeatingCentering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of contemplative prayer. Utilizing the books and videotapes of Fr. Thomas Keating and other teachers of contemplative practice in the spiritual journey, we study contemplative prayer in the Christian tradition, practice Centering Prayer together and support one another in the ongoing spiritual journey.  In association with Contemplative Outreach of Boulder County, we have the opportunity to participate in conferences, workshops and retreats locally as well as at St. Benedict’s monastery in Snowmass, CO where Fr. Keating resides.

The Tuesday Centering Prayer group meets from 9:00 – 10:30 am in the contemplative prayer room located on the northwest corner of the main sanctuary building and accessed by the main east door of the sanctuary (overlooking the labyrinth). Welcoming of newcomers and greeting is available at 8:30, just inside the entry door. This allows some time to socialize before quietly moving to the centering prayer room just before 9:00 for the first prayer sit. There is at least one prayer sit starting at 9:00 then a contemplative walk in the Sanctuary followed by at least one of: another sit, Lectio Divina, or reading together works that are important to the Christian Mystical and Centering Prayer journey. Reflections on these practices may be shared. As always, you are welcome to join or leave during this time as your schedule requires. If the door to the centering prayer room is closed when you arrive (we shut the door at 9:00), please have a seat in a church pew for quiet reflection or prayer and join in the
contemplative walk and the rest of the session. We welcome all to experience this ancient practice used by the Desert Mothers and Fathers and in monasteries for centuries. If you have questions or would like to talk with one of the facilitators beforehand, please contact Eben Carsey (303-449-3041, This email address is being protected from spambots.
