A journey of education about race, faith, and our shared history—and an opportunity to consider how we might help create a more just and loving community.

Sacred Ground is an 11-session dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups use films and readings to walk through chapters of history of race in the United States, while weaving in threads of family stories, economic class, and political and regional identity. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day—all while staying grounded in our call to faith, hope, and love. Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society.

What to Expect

  • 11 sessions of guided learning and reflection with a small group of St. John’s members

  • Every 2 weeks, beginning the first week of October 2026

  • Choose what works for your group: Find a meeting time and place (or virtual) that works best for your group

  • Prepare between sessions: Readings, documentaries, and reflection questions will help you get ready for each gathering

  • Explore together: Learn about history, race, faith, and reconciliation through shared discussion and reflection

  • Come ready to learn: No prior knowledge or expertise is expected—just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to listen

  • Build connections: Create space for personal reflection and meaningful connection with others
