Jesus calls us to care for our neighbors, at St. John’s we follow that call through the Social Action Ministry. Our Ministries encompass 5 distinct social action networks—Food Insecurity; Caring Neighbors; Gun Violence Prevention; Community, Equity, Inclusion; Locally Haiti; and Climate Care. Caring Neighbors

  • With homelessness on the rise in Boulder County, the Caring Neighbors Ministry does our part to be of service. We respond to Jesus’ call to offer food and drink to the hungry and thirsty and to welcome the stranger. We host an indoor meal on the first Sunday of the month, grab-and-go dinners on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and another indoor meal every Thursday. ‍ ‍‍ ‍

  • In addition to supporting our partners, St. John’s Whittier Pantry and First Sunday Meal are entirely run by volunteers from St. John’s.

    Whittier Pantry helps families at Whittier Elementary bridge the gap from what isn’t covered by SNAP but are still essential needs.

    Our First Sunday Meal has been a staple in Boulder for decades and continues to feed to community.

  • We believe partnership and working together yields lasting change.

    For our week day meals, we partner with Unity Table.

    We are partnered with Community Court and Deacon’s Closet, which are available Tuesdays 2-3 PM to provide care, guidance and clothes to the community.

    In addition, we are a clinic site for St. Benedict’s Health and Healing Ministry which provides healthcare during our First Sunday Meal.

  • We care deeply about the issue of immigration in our community. We believe that immigrants should be treated with respect and dignity and we acknowledge our common humanity as beloved children of God. This ministry seeks to keep members informed of events and issues and offers practical and prayerful ways to become involved. ‍

  • Deacons Closet takes place every Thursday 2-3 at St. John’s. Please use the east 15th street entrance. You will find volunteers eager to support people who need new clothes, shoes or other items. Community Court takes place outside on our parking lot closet to 15th street.

  • St. John's members co-founded the Colorado Coalition of Indigenous Allies (CCIA) in 2023. Its mission is to seek justice for Indigenous people through education, advocacy, and pilgrimage. Membership has spread outside Boulder County through several other counties in Colorado. Recently, their article exploring their pilgrimage to the Sand Creek Massacre site was published in the Anglican and Episcopal History Quarterly Journal, Volume 95. Community, Equity, and Inclusion

Gun Violence Prevention

In our belief in the sacredness of human life, this network is devoted to advocacy in protecting lives from gun violence. Accomplishments include an annual gun lock giveaway at the County Fair, partnering with the District Attorney for a gun safe giveaway, and continually participating in calls to support strong gun violence prevention bills.

Locally Haiti

Founded in 1989, Locally Haiti invests in locally led initiatives in Petit Trou de Nippes, a growing rural community of approximately 40,000. Our programs are integrated across the sectors of education, agriculture and food security, community health, and girls' empowerment. We’re committed to community-based work that places resources directly in the hands of Haitian leaders.
